George Franklin Lumpkin

May 24, 1942 — June 17, 2021

George Franklin Lumpkin went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 17, 2021. George was born in Macon, Georgia on May, 24, 1942 to the late Joseph and Susie Smith Lumpkin. He graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1960 where he was an active member of the band all four years. He also played Little League Baseball and was on the baseball team at Norman College. He earned his BS in Business Administration at Georgia Southern University in 1965 and returned to Warner Robins where he began his distinguished Civil Service career in Personnel at Robins Air Force Base. He retired on January 7, 2000 receiving numerous awards and commendations for outstanding service.

It was at Georgia Southern where he met the love of his life, Lane McNeely. They were married December 18, 1965 and shared 55 wonderful years together. They joined Trinity United Methodist Church where George served on Staff Parish Committee a number of times, worked with the Food Pantry driving the church’s truck to pick up food at the distribution center in Macon, chaperoned youth choir tours, purchased the furnishings for the Christian Learning Center and other jobs where he could work for Christ and Trinity. He was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class, and past member of the Men’s Quartet and the Chancel Choir.

George had a deep commitment to the importance of family and instilled that trait in his sons, Robert and Mark. He coached his sons’ baseball and soccer teams and was one of the first soccer coaches for the WR Rec Department. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his sons and their families—especially the Grands. He drove many miles to attend games, dance recitals, graduations, and any other events that involved his much loved extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lumpkin and granddaughter, Harley Rebecca Lumpkin. He is survived by his wife, Lane Lumpkin of Bonaire; son, Mark Lumpkin (Natalie) of Grapevine, TX and daughter-in-law, Kristi Lumpkin of Macon; grandchildren, Avery Hall and Lyla Lumpkin of Grapevine and Ruby Kate Lumpkin of Macon; brother, Joe Lumpkin (LaRee) of Tampa, FL; and special nieces and nephews.
