George Kalebaugh, Sr.

Lt. Col. George Kalebaugh, Sr. USAF (Ret.)

Warner Robins – George Kalebaugh, 89, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

Lt Col. Kalebaugh was born on March 3, 1920 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He proudly served his country for twenty-seven years in the United States Air Force. A combat pilot, he flew the B-17 Flying Fortress in World War II and the B-29 in the Korean Conflict. He had the distinct honor of piloting a B-52 non-stop around the world January 16 – 18 of 1957, a Guinness World Record. A talented marksman, he was an avid hunter and a member of the NRA. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Marjorie Barwise Kalebaugh, and his parents, Otto Orion Kalebaugh and Rose Vavrika Kalebaugh.

His memory will forever be treasured by his daughter, Marsha Christensen (Howard), McKenna, Washington; son, George Kalebaugh, Jr. (Carlene), Warner Robins; grandchildren, Jarrod, Rachel (Josh), Katie and Chrissy; great-grandchildren, Carter and Davis; sister, Rose Lillian McCombs, Covelo, California.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 22, 2010 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home preceding the service from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Museum of Aviation Foundation, 247 Russell Parkway, Warner Robins GA 31088, or to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, 5705 Grant Creek, Missoula MT 59808.
