Gerald ''Vance'' Pike

January 7, 1963 — March 10, 2004

Vance Pike, age 41, a native of Warner Robins, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 in Marietta, Georgia. A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins, Ga.

Vance was a 1981 graduate of Warner Robins High School where he was a standout for the Demons football team. As a young adult living at home he attended Bonaire Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School.

He earned a degree in business administration from GSU during the years he played football there and upon returning as a member of the football coaching staff he earned a degree in civil engineering. He was Georgia Southern’s first football All-American and an Eagle’s coach for seven years, was considered one of the finest offensive linemen ever in the NCAA Division IAA. He started at right tackle during Georgia Southern’s first national championship season in 1985. He was Georgia Southern University’s first Hall of Famer, all honor’s from Kodak, and first All-American squad. Coach Pike helped Georgia Southern to three playoff appearances (1990, 1993, 1995) and one Southern Conference Title.

He was currently employed by Georgia Pacific. He was preceded in death by his father, James Robert (Bob) Pike, in 1989.

Surviving are his wife, Julie A. Pike, Acworth, GA; stepson, Tyler Anderson, Acworth, GA; daughters, Keeley Grace Pike and Cece Pike, Acworth, GA; mother, Barbara Pike Bass, Warner Robins, GA; stepfather, Donald Bass, Warner Robins, GA; brother, Kenneth Gregory Pike, Warner Robins, GA; stepbrother, Donald Bass, Jr., Macon, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
