Glenn Lamar Hitchcock

March 26, 1929 — February 18, 2011

Centerville – Glenn L. Hitchcock, 81, entered into rest on Friday, February 18, 2011.

Born in Crisp County on March 26, 1929 to Lamar and Mary Lou Hitchcock, Glenn graduated from Crisp County High School and the Georgia State Teachers College. He received further degrees from Mercer University, Georgia State College and the University of Georgia. A proud United States Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict.

Glenn began his career in 1954 at Warner Robins High School, teaching English and Literature. In 1961, he moved to the Atlanta area where he was a counselor at several schools and at the Georgia Department of Education as Coordinator of Student Support Unit for two years. He returned to Houston County in 1971 as Director of Secondary Education and Counseling at the Houston County Board of Education until his retirement in 1994 with forty years of service to Education. Glen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Asberry Sunday School Class. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha Harris Hitchcock in 1983.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Marie Davis Hitchcock, daughter, Teresa Ross-Johnson (Aaron), Johns Creek; step-daughter, Tracey McKeever (Mark), Bartlett, Tennessee; step-sons, John Rourke (Jayne), Milledgeville, Shannon Rourke (Lori), Bonaire, and Scott Rourke, Warner Robins; grandson, Alex; step-grandchildren, Paige, Hailey, Kaylynn, Sean, Jack and Jill; sisters, Nancy Trussell (Bill), Atlanta and Nell Tallant (Foster), Warner Robins.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Dr. Bill Bagwell and the Reverend Marty McLeod officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Trinity United Methodist Church Food Bank, 129 S. Houston Road, Warner Robins GA 31088.
