Guy Lee "Buster" Smith, Jr.

July 23, 1934 — January 20, 2019

Guy Lee “Buster” Smith, Jr. passed away on the afternoon of Sunday, 20th January, 2019 at the age of 84. He was a loving husband, father, and brother. Guy Smith was born in Gastonia, North Carolina to Guy Lee Smith, Sr. and Mrs. Ruby Caroline Fox Smith. He joined the U.S. Air Force on December 7th, 1951 and served his nation for 26 years in the U. S. Air Force before retiring as a Master Sergeant. He continued to serve his nation as a civilian with the Department of Defense for another 20 years before retiring in Warner Robins, Georgia.
During his lengthy public service, he served in Korea during the Korean War and later in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. A significant contribution during his lengthy service career was an assignment in direct support of Project Oxcart & Operation Black Shield at the Nevada Test Site from ’66 to ’68. Guy’s military career ultimately ended where it started at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Guy was very active in his faith and devotion to the Lord. He was a longtime member of the Beth Yeshua International in Macon, Georgia where he served in various capacities.

Guy was predeceased by his lovely and wonderful wife of 57 years, Molly Virginia Smith; his son, Guy Lee Renick; his parents; his sister, Caroline Smith; and brother, Eddie Carroll Smith.
Guy leaves behind his children; Ricky (Edith) Smith of Texas, Tami Smith of California, one grandchild, Natalie Smith Paterson, as well two brothers, R. Douglas(Cindy) Smith, Tucker, GA and Timothy G. (Nancy) Smith, Gastonia, NC, and a crowd of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Visitation will be Monday, 28 January, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Rd., Warner Robins, GA 31088. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be on Tuesday, 29 January 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, Georgia 31061.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given In Memory of Guy Lee Smith, Jr. to Neve Michael Children’s Village, 1 Hazfira Street, Pardes Hanna, Israel 37000, In Care of Beth Yeshua International Synagogue, 5970 Price Road, Macon, GA 31220.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Smith’s arrangements.
