Harold Clifton Geary

January 7, 1942 — February 16, 2020

Harold Clifton Geary, also known as Monty to his loved ones, died peacefully in his home at the age of 78, surrounded by his family at 1:11 pm on Sunday, February 16, 2020.

Monty is survived by his former wife, Faye Lewis; daughters, Kenda Ruck, Denise Potts, and Rebekah Andras-Myers; sons, Matthew “Ash” Geary, and Mark Geary; and many loving grandchildren, Logan, Halee, Aquilege, Luc, Tyler, Josh, Kai, Amelia-Grey and Casimir-Blue; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Monty was a proud United States Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran, a tank mechanic, a builder, a preacher, a hearing-impaired interpreter, a steel mill worker, a roofer, a welder, a cook, a guitar/harmonica/piano player, and a life-long rebel. He traveled all around the world in his military service and personal life, including Mexico, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, and all over the United States. (He loved Hawaii.)

In the Marines he helped build houses, bridges, and roads in Vietnam and Japan. Monty loved movies, especially sci-fi and action films, and live sports. His hobby was playing pinochle with his friends at the VFW, (thank you, Earl and Bob).

A special thank you to his niece Allene “Sissy” Dixon who uprooted her life and came to live with him as a full-time caretaker in his final month. Thank you to Dawn, Kelly, and Marianne at Heart of Georgia Hospice for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards McCullough Funeral Home & Crematory for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.

For memorial contributions, the family has designated the Tunnels to Towers Foundation which builds mortgage-free smart homes for our most catastrophically injured service members.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Geary will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Following the service we will observe Marine military honors and there will be a reception for family and friends at The Farmhouse at McCullough Funeral Home. Mr. Geary will be laid to rest at Andersonville National Cemetery.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
