Henry "Hank" Kokenzie, Jr.

March 2, 1950 — September 27, 2017

Hank Kokenzie, Jr., 67, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Born on March 2, 1950 in Augusta, Georgia, Hank was the son of the late Irene Owens and Henry Fayette Kokenzie, Sr. He was a proud United States Army Veteran who bravely served his country during the Vietnam War and most recently worked as the Senior Safety, Health & Environmental Manager at Balfour Beatty for 13 years. Hank was very well-liked and proficient in his duties at Balfour Beatty as he was a very smart man, hard worker and knew absolutely everything in his field of work. His wife, Consuelo referred to him as a “dictionary” of safety rules. Always driven in everything he did, Hank put himself through school, earning several degrees and certifications. He always strived to improve. He was extremely organized in his own way and was a stickler for things being done right.

He was described as a “Jack of All Trades, Master of None.” He was very skilled with his hands and could fix anything around the house. A brilliant entertainer and great host, Hank was very sociable and outgoing. He strived for everyone else’s happiness and gave his wife and family anything and everything they wanted or needed. Hank had a wonderful relationship with all of his family. He would always joke around by saying that he was “old, fat, and ugly,” and without fail, people would reply, “no, you’re tall, dark, and handsome.” He was Consuelo’s best friend and her whole world. He built his life around his family and friends, and his deep love, strength, and integrity will be greatly missed.

Hank’s memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 26 years, Consuelo M. del Monaco Kokenzie; children, Elizabeth Irene Abarca (Rafael), Nicholas Robert Kokenzie, and Kristina Marie Kokenzie; grandchildren, Giovanni Christopher Abarca, Olivia Marie Kokenzie, and Jordan Lynn Kokenzie; and a host of other members of the Kokenzie and del Monaco families.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the service, Mr. Kokenzie will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
