Heriberto Castro, Jr.

May 21, 1945 — December 28, 2016

Heriberto (Herbie) Castro, Jr. was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on May 21, 1945 to loving parents, Mr. & Mrs. Heriberto Castro, Sr. (Hilda), who preceded him in death. After a very fruitful life, he passed away peacefully while traveling, on December 28, 2016.
Heriberto married his beautiful bride, Virginia Brown (whom he lovingly called "Honey"), on November 29, 1969. Together, they raised two wonderful children.

Herbie was an outgoing, friendly person who never met a stranger. He made everyone feel as though they were his life-long friends. His smile and laughter were contagious to everyone around him. Heriberto was a kind gentleman; always loving, generous and supportive to his family and friends.
Mr. Castro graduated from the New York School of Printing, in Bronx, New York. He then proudly served his country in the United States Air Force; after which, he had the opportunity to join the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. Herbie's career as an Air Traffic Control Specialist with the Federal Aviation Administration spanned 32 years; he retired in 2005. He also worked as a facilities technician for Northrop Grumman and a travel agent with Cruise and Travel Shopee.
Herbie and Virginia traveled the world together and sailed on fifty-five (55) cruises. In his free time, he enjoyed learning new things, Sudoku puzzles, long walks, good books and witty conversation. He was an avid sports fan who annually attended the Super Bowl in various cities in the nation. He had an adventurous spirit. Herbie was a licensed pilot and flew private air planes for enjoyment.

Herbie devoted his life to his family, friends, church and community. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church on Garmon Street, Warner Robins, GA and served in several ministries: Men's Discipleship, Meals on Wheels, AWANA and the Usher's. Herbie believed in working in his community and volunteered with AARP to prepare federal income tax returns for senior citizens; he also delivered meals for the Houston County Meals on Wheels Program. He was a member of the Montfort Point Marine Association, Chapter 35, where he worked diligently to help raise funds for young men and women to receive scholarships for college.

Heriberto Castro was the beloved husband of forty-seven (47) years to Virginia; a devoted father to Heriberto III (Jocelyn), of Islip, NY and Monique Pierce (Ashley) of McKinney, TX; a loving grandfather to Heriberto IV, Antonio, Hayden, Isabella and Brooklyn; a dear brother to Martha Castro, Gladys Castro-Wilson (Tyrone), Rafael Castro (Stephanie) and Lourdes Escalera (Eligio); a loving Son-in-Law to Carrie E. Brown; a loving Brother-in-Law to Marie Farrar, Helenia Windham, Susie Ross, Larry Brown and Ida Mae Brown. Herbie was genuinely loved by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him; yet, remembered fondly…perpetually.

Visitation with Herbie's family will be Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.
