Hortense G. Walker

Mrs. Hortense G. Walker, 94, of Marianna, Florida, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013.

She was born on December 14, 1918 in Wheeler County, Georgia and was married to James Terrell Walker from September 15, 1940 until his death on November 8, 1997. Hortense was a member of Avondale Baptist Church in Bibb County for twenty-seven years where she taught Sunday School and her husband served on the Board of Deacons. She was also an active member of Greenlawn Baptist Church in Eastman, Georgia and Green Acres Baptist Church in Warner Robins. In addition to her husband, her parents, Charles Oscar Gay and Sallie Brack Gay, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Walker was a retired nurse having started nursing school in her 50's. She worked at the Middle Georgia Medical Center in Macon and the Middle Georgia Nursing Home in Eastman. She loved children, cooking, and talking, always displaying a zest for life. She discovered a passion for painting late in life.

She is survived by her children, Ann Walker Pierce, Perry, Georgia; James Cornelius Walker (wife, Dianne), Marianna, Florida; and Ellen Walker Vivet, France; grandson, Nicholas James Seth Walker (wife, Jordan), Tallahassee, Florida; and sister, Jeddeth Gay Pope, Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews in Georgia and Florida.

Visitation will be Friday, March 29, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, it was Hortense's wish that donations be made to Georgia Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries, P.O. Box 329, Palmetto, Georgia 30268.
