Howard T. Kitchens

July 5, 1931 — August 2, 2018

Howard T. Kitchens, 87, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 2, 2018.

Howard was born on July 5, 1931 in the cut-off community of Macon County, Georgia, the son of the late Walter G. and Nellie Thompson Kitchens of Andersonville, Georgia. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served his country in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. Howard also retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base where he was an electronics technician in bomb navigation.

A lifetime member of the Masons and American Legion, Howard was an avid bowler, hunter, and loved to travel. He also enjoyed working in the yard and was second to none at gardening whether it was summer fare or winter collards and greens. Howard never missed an opportunity to sit on the back porch with his loving wife and enjoy the outdoors. He was a wonderful grandfather and mentor, the best father, and most loyal friend a person could ask for, never too busy to help out no matter what the situation was.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter “Buck” Kitchens, Jeanette Coleman, Curtis Kitchens, Stella Smith, Sue McCorkle, and Margaret Minix; and several nieces and nephews.

Howard’s memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 65 years, Carolyn Plyman Kitchens; children, Lisa Simms and Tommy Kitchens (Karen); grandchildren, Brian Kitchens (Lauren), Zachary Kitchens, and Kelsey Kitchens Harvey (Tyler); great-granddaughter, Tylie Rose Harvey; siblings, Patsy Jones, Russell Kitchens (Dovie), Shirley Weekley, Betty Smith (Terrell); and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 7, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Lauritsen officiating. After the service, Mr. Kitchens will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m. in Andersonville National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be given in memory of Howard to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Dr., Warner Robins, GA 31088.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Kitchens’ arrangements.
