Irene Smith

Mrs. Irene E. Smith, 86, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2010.

Born in Alliance, Alberta, Canada, on September 30, 1923, the beloved daughter of Louis and Minnie Adam Hoefling, she was the youngest and only remaining of a family of eight children. William, Annie, Edward, Fred, Ralph, John and Lois, all predeceased her.

Irene and her husband, Lt Col Arnold Smith USAF (Ret.), were married on August 16, 1956 in Trenton, New Jersey. Subsequent to Arnold's distinguished military career, they moved to Warner Robins and were avid bowlers who received numerous trophies for their bowling accomplishments throughout the Middle Georgia area. Irene served as a Pink Lady at the Robins Air Force Base hospital for twenty-eight years. A pet lover, she enjoyed feeding her birds, had a special love for dogs, and was always kind to animals.

She will live in the hearts of her husband of fifty-three years, Arnold Smith, Church Home for the Aged, Perry; nephew, Robin (Ruth) Thompson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; sister-in-law, Juanita S. Carr, Hendersonville, Tennessee, and niece, Noroma (Jack) Benz, Goodlettsville, Tennessee. She was a faithful and loving friend and will be missed by her close friends, Debbie Gill, Lynn Rasmussen, and Shirley Stricklen-Barrett.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 26, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Church Home for the Aged, P. O. Box 1376, Perry GA 31069.
