Jack J. Peck, 91, died Saturday, January 31, 2015 in Warner Robins. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at 11:00am, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday at McCullough Funeral Home.

Jack was born October 18, 1923 in Sheldon, Iowa and lived there and in Ames, Iowa in his youth. Jack graduated from Ames High School in May 1941; it was here that he met his future wife, Ruth Louise Fitz. Jack was a WWII veteran, having served in the Navy from December 1942 (attending airplane mechanic school, aerial gunner school, and flight engineer school and served as a flight engineer on a Patrol Bomber Martin PBM-5) until his honorable discharge in April 1946. After discharge from the Navy, Jack attended Northrop Aeronautical Institution in Hawthorne, CA; there he learned Aircraft and Engine mechanic skills and earned his Aircraft and Engine (A&E) license. Soon thereafter, he married Ruth on May 10, 1947, in Compton, CA.

The A&E license ensured his position at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO where he served as an airplane mechanic for ten years. His sons David and Doug were born there. Next, he transferred to Topeka, KS for a position as an Equipment Specialist. After serving there for a year, Jack accepted a transfer to Robins Air Force Base, where he became both an Equipment Specialist and a Logistics Officer. Soon after transferring to Robins, Jack's family expanded with the addition of son Bill and daughter Debbie. Jack and Ruth built a house in Warner Robins in 1959, where they were surrounded by wonderful neighbors who became life-long friends. That house is still their home today, after 55 years!

While working for Robins AFB, he and his family transferred to St. Charles, MO for a four year period (1972 – 1976) where he supported the F-15 at McDonnell Douglas. While in St. Charles, Jack actively participated in the Society of Logistics Engineers, and from his experience and diligent studies, he was awarded the Certified Professional Logistician, CPL, distinction. At Robins, Jack served as a logistics manager until his retirement after 33 years in 1981. After retiring from the civil service, he held positions in logistics for several government aerospace contractors including Support Systems Associates Inc, (SSAI).

Community wise, Jack was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1965. He held numerous positions within the Church including President of the United Methodist Men, Sunday School Teacher, and Chairman of the Trustees. Throughout the years, Jack was a regular volunteer for his kids' activities including Boy Scouts and Little League (coaching and umpiring). He was also his kids' number one fan at their sporting events. From his church he received the "Cross and Flame Award" for his support of the Boy Scouts. Additionally Jack volunteered his service for 25 years to the AARP Tax aide Program, providing free income tax assistance to the elderly and those in need. Jack was active in the retired federal employee's organization, NARFE, where he served as both Vice President and President as well as Service Officer at Robins Air Force Base's NARFE's Service Center. After training by the Better Business Bureau, Jack served a number of years as a BBB Arbitrator where one year he was cited as the Arbitrator of the Year. Also, Jack is an American Red Cross ten gallon blood donor and volunteered for the Red Cross, teaching smoking cessation.

He is survived by Ruth Peck, his wife of 67 years, his children--David (Peggy), Doug (Tommie), Bill, Debbie (David Bessinger)--and his grandson Dan (Brooke and great grandson Jack Brooker) and granddaughters, Drew and Dara Bessinger. Mr. Peck is also survived by his siblings Dorothy McWilliams (Cherry Valley, CA) and Tom Peck (Sierra Vista, AZ) and by Ruth's brother, Bob (Mary) Fitz (Ames, IA) and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a newborn son, Baby Boy Peck, as well as his parents, Jack Cedric and Esther Ann (Lamkin) Peck, and sister, Bette Platte. In lieu of flowers, Jack's family would be honored by donations to Trinity United Methodist Church's building fund. McCullough Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
