James Alexander "Jim" Law

March 4, 1929 — October 28, 2017

James Alexander “Jim” Law went to be with his Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Saturday, October 28, 2017. He was 88 years old.

Jim was born on March 4, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Northern Irish parents, Alexander and Mary Law. Shortly after, the family moved back to Belfast, Northern Ireland where he grew up. Jim took an early interest in the military and proudly served as a RAF Air Cadet during World War II. He then decided to join the United States Army in April 1947. Jim completed Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia and went on to serve in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. As part of the 39th Corps of Engineers, he rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the youngest to do so at that time. Jim was awarded the Legion of Merit for his outstanding leadership and guidance to both his troops and commanders and his unique ability to communicate across all ranks.

Following his military retirement, he returned to Belfast with his family where he started his second career as the General Manager of Belfast-based DC Exhaust. Jim’s responsibilities led to a relationship with ANSA Marmitte, an Italian automotive exhaust manufacturer. They eventually recruited him to open their U.S. distribution company, established in Georgia in 1977 which he led as President, until his retirement.

In 2005, Jim was honored by automotive industry peers for his hard work, stand-up reputation, dedication to the import parts industry and integrity throughout his career, becoming that year’s recipient of the AIA Hall of Fame Award.

He was an avid supporter and active member of both the VFW #6605 and the NCOA, and a well-loved member of the RAFB Chapel congregation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gordon and Bryan Law.

Jim’s memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elfriede “Elly” Law; children, Peter (Stephanie), Bryan (Marina) and Patricia (Ronny); grandchildren, Melanie, Jason, Ben, Ashley, Leslie, Haylee and Jesse; great-grandchildren, Alayna, Riley, Rohan, Darby, Blake, Bella and Vivien; and family members in Ireland and Germany.

Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Chaplain Gabriel Rios officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Jim Law to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), heroes.vfw.org.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Law’s arrangements.
