James C. "J.C" Melvin, Jr.

James C. "J.C." Melvin, Jr., 78, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

J.C. was born on February 27, 1937 in Fort Valley, Georgia and was of the Lutheran faith. He attended Lanier High School and then proudly joined the United States Air Force. J.C. served his country for four years. Following his military service, he worked as a pilot before beginning his career with the Federal Aviation Administration.

J.C. was an avid golfer and was honored to play with various professional golf leagues including an over-50 league for the PGA. J.C. had a full and happy life.

His parents, James C. Melvin, Sr. and Christine Arnold Melvin; sister, Carolyn Smith; and first wife, Jean Watson Melvin, preceded him in death.

J.C. is survived by his wife, Fay Cotton Melvin of Bonaire; brothers, Russell Melvin (Marsha) and Buddy Melvin (Jan), both of Perry; children, Bill Bernard (Nancy) of Centerville and John Bernard (Queenie) of Warner Robins; stepchildren, Chuck Barnes (Lindsey) of Bogart and Angel Meriwether (Scott) of Cumming; grandchildren, Stephanie Young, Andre Wilson, Seanna Hansen, Wesley Bernard, Evan Bernard, Bubba Bernard, Sarah H. Carroll, Joe Hicks, Josh Hicks, Allison, Ethan and William Barnes, and Jake and Anna Meriwether; 10 great-grandchildren; and several adoring nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of J.C. to the American Lung Association, 2452 Spring Road, Smyrna, GA 30080.
