James Eric "Jim" Warren

April 3, 1957 — April 8, 2021

A quintessential Renaissance man, James Eric “Jim” Warren, who celebrated his 64th birthday on April 3rd, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 8, 2021 after a brief illness.

Jim had an incredibly intelligent, brilliant mind. He was one of those people who knew every answer on Jeopardy. Not only book smart, he was artistic as well. He was well read, wrote poetry, played piano despite never having a lesson, taught himself a variety of other instruments, and came up with the best punchlines. A lover of dancing, he was known to cut a rug with his wife and daughter. His favorite music to listen to was bluegrass. Jim also enjoyed his time on a golf course and throwing a line in the water.

An extremely hard working man, he was known to have multiple jobs at one time. Jim paid his way through college by playing pool at the Wooden Nickel Pub. Pool wasn’t the only hobby Jim was good at. He also won a cruise for himself and his wife by playing blackjack. Traveling was something Jim was passionate about and he spent time journeying all over the world. Though he was a world traveler, Jim loved this country. He was a proud supporter of the 21st Century Partnership and was a member of the Masons.

Devoted to his faith, Jim was strong in his love of the Lord. He was also loyal to his family, a rock for those he loved. He dedicated many summers to feeding the volunteers at the Southeastern Regional Little League tournament. In his professional career, Jim had most recently been a sales representative for the Associated Grocers of the South since 2002. He was on the board of the Georgia Food Industry Association for more than 30 years. He owned several family grocery stores and had a partnership in Apalachicola, Florida. Jim wasn’t one to brag about all of his amazing accomplishments as he was humble and gracious for the life that God had laid out for him.

Adoring husband, doting father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Jim was a bright light whose presence will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death were his parents, James Daniel Warren Jr., and Margaret Peek Warren, along with his brother, Michael Peek Warren.

Those who will dearly miss their beloved Jim are his wife of 40 years, Margaret Warren; children, Kimberly Hamblen (Doug) and Michael Smith (Vanessa); grandchildren, Haley Beverly (RT) and their child Atlas, Seth Hanniford (Grace) and their child Austin, Grace Weeman (Mike), Ansley Hanniford, Josiah Hanniford, Nicole Smith, Charlene Smith, Caterina Hemmler, and Sarah Smith; sisters, Beth Warren Strickland and Patricia Warren Dubberly; nieces and nephews, James D. Robinson, Helen Funk (Matt), great nephew, Max Funk, nieces and nephews, Laura Grieb (Austin), John Michael and Addison, Richard Dubberly, Daniel Dubberly and Matthew Warren; aunt, Louise Abbey; cousin, Carolyn Greene; and many other extended family and friends including his extended family, Richard D. Smith.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021 at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held immediately following visitation on Monday, April 12, 2021 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.
