James (Jim) Gillis

James (Jim) Neal Gillis, 66, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Warner Robins, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Mr. Gillis was born in Maben, Mississippi, on August 3, 1945. He was the son of the late Willie Woodrow Gillis of Alamo, Georgia, and of his mother Emma "Polly" Gillis of Perry, Georgia. Mr. Gillis was preceded in death by his father; and, his sister, Wilma Ann Gillis.

Jim Gillis was raised in Wheeler County, Georgia. He lived in Houston County for the past thirty-eight years. He resided in Perry for eleven years and in Warner Robins for twenty-seven years. For many years, he was an active member of Perry United Methodist Church and of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Wheeler County High School, Middle Georgia College, and Auburn University where he received his degree in industrial engineering. He received his Master's Degree in Material Management from Georgia College & State University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Early in his career, Mr. Gillis was employed by the Bibb Manufacturing Company and the Kellwood Company. He retired from Robins Air Force Base in April 2010 having completed thirty-seven years of federal service.

Mr. Gillis was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, and father. His memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Hilda Gillis of Warner Robins; daughters, Kristi Gillis and Heidi Gillis; mother, Emma Gillis; and, a large extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that memorial contributions may be made to The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, GA 31203-2525; League of the Good Samaritan, Magnolia Manor, 2001 South Lee St., Americus, GA 31709; The Alamo United Methodist Church, 212 Pine St., Alamo, GA 30411; or, to a charity of the donor's choice.
