James Wesley Thorpe

November 23, 1939 — July 7, 2021

James Wesley Thorpe, 81, of Hawkinsville stepped into the arms of his Heavenly Father when he passed from this life on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

Born on November 23, 1939, in Bonaire, Georgia, James was the son of the late Jim Henry Thorpe and Mattie Bell Haygood. James was the type of man who loved working and keeping busy. He owned a masonry business for 40 years. James also loved to be around people and host parties. He enjoyed playing cards, games, hunting, and chopping wood. James had a special relationship with his only daughter, Samantha, and his God-daughter, Denita Lane.

James was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and a brother.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Lucille J.Thorpe; daughter, Samantha D. Thorpe; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

James will be laid to rest with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Magnolia Park South Cemetery. Pastor Keith McIntosh will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
