James Wilson “Jim” Barker, age 87, passed away at the Houston Medical Center on Monday, May 30, 2022.
Born February 23, 1935 in Madison, Florida, Jim was the son of the late Earl and Faye Smith Barker. A 20-year retired veteran of the United States Air Force, he served during the Vietnam War. Each morning, Jim would wake up early to drink his coffee and read his daily newspaper. He enjoyed making his family and friends laugh with his infectious personality. One of his favorite pastimes was swimming in the water off the Florida beaches. An avid old-school country music fan, he especially liked George Jones, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams, Sr. Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife of 60 years, Toshi Barker; sons, Jimmy Barker (Laura) of Tennessee and Robert Barker (Alisa) of Warner Robins; daughter, Teresa Behrman (David) of Warner Robins; five grandchildren; sister, Sara Bray; and all of his nieces and nephews who knew him as their “Uncle Jimmy.”
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.
