Jerry M. Pope

November 22, 1942 — September 21, 2017

Jerry Pope entered into rest on Thursday, September 21, 2017. He was 74 years old.

Born in George County, Mississippi on November 22, 1942, Jerry lived his early years in Greenwood, Mississippi before moving to Warner Robins as a young boy. He graduated from Warner Robins High School and joined the United States Marines Corps serving for two years in Vietnam. Jerry had a short but distinguished military career earning 36 air medals. When he returned home from Vietnam, he made the beautiful Elaine Shirah his wife on September 30, 1967.

Jerry worked in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base for several years as an air craft mechanic before working with Bell Helicopter in Vietnam and Iran for some years. He then went to work with McDonnell Douglas traveling to Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. Jerry specialized in seating doors on aircrafts and was very coveted for his talent. Following his career at McDonnell Douglas, he went back to Civil Service on base.

He purchased Snapper’s Lounge on Moody Road which he operated until 2015. Jerry enjoyed shooting pool, watching old westerns, and was extremely proud of his Choctaw heritage. The legacy of his generous spirit will forever live on through his family and all who knew him.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Romania Goodman; his stepfather, Sam Goodman, whom treated him like his own son; and father, Horace Pope.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 50 years, Elaine Pope of Warner Robins; son, James Michael Pope of Gainesville, Georgia; grandson, James Mason Pope; siblings, Marilyn Swichkow, Ginger Pope Kollman (Bill), Cbo Pope, and Ouida Miller; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at The Farmhouse at McCullough following the service. His burial will be private.
