Jimmie Elizabeth Martin

April 24, 1927 — February 5, 2017

Mrs. Jimmie Martin, 89, joined her beloved husband of 62 years, Gene Nick Martin, in heaven on the evening of Sunday, February 5, 2017.

Jimmie was born in Memphis, Texas to the late George and Fern Cook on April 24, 1927. She married the love of her life, Gene Martin on September 8, 1954 and devoted her life to a career of faithfully serving him and raising their two children. A talented artist who loved to paint, Jimmie was a much-loved member of SouthWest Artist, Inc. in Arkansas where she served as past President. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Lt. Col. Joseph Zan Martin, U.S. Army (Ret.); and siblings, Willis, David, and G.W. Cook.

She leaves her memory behind with her loving daughter, Robin Martin Hixon and her husband, Col. Tommy D. Hixon, USAF (Ret.) of Warner Robins; daughter-in-law, Karen Roark Martin of Rogers, Arkansas; grandchildren, Capt. Thomas Daniel Hixon, USAF of Kansas City, Missouri, Rachel Hixon of Warner Robins, Joseph Martin, and Alexandria Martin Ferguson (Joe) and great-grandchildren, Julianna and Brooks Ferguson, all of Fayetteville, Arkansas; siblings, Janie Johnson and Georgie Duffy, both of Petrolia, Texas, and Rev. Danny Cook of Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Jimmie will be laid to rest next to her husband at a later date in Pine Crest Cemetery in Mena, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Mrs. Jimmie Martin to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 4002018, Des Moines, IA 50340, www.redcross.org.
