Jo Ann Amelia Barner Smith

Jo Ann Amelia Barner Smith, 77, entered into rest on Sunday, June 16, 2013.

Mrs. Smith was born on April 27, 1936 in Effingham County, Georgia to the late Hurley Jefferson Barner and Lucy Emmie Taylor Barner. She was a loving and dedicated homemaker. Jo Ann was a member of Central Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class, served as Out Reach leader, Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk for eleven years, Chairman of the Bereavement Committee for twenty-eight years, and in any capacity she was asked to serve. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Retired Enlisted Association, The National Committee to preserve Social Security, Senior Coalition, America's Retired People Association and United We Stand. Her parents, beloved husband, MSgt Ed Lewis "Dock" Smith, USAF (Ret), and one sister, Geraldine Lathom, all preceded her in death.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her sons and their wives, Timothy Jay Smith and his wife Kate of Winterville, Georgia; Steven Glenn Smith and his wife Aida of Knoxville, Georgia; grandchildren, Joshua Smith and his wife Allison of Suwanee, Georgia; Kimberly MacFarland and her husband Josh of Athens, Georgia; Kris Davis of Warner Robins; and Randy Parsons and his wife Samantha of Olympia, Washington; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Melinda Heidt, Guyton, Georgia; Priscilla Burnsed, Gainesville, Georgia; brother, Reverend William Barner and his wife Kay of Jonesboro, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, June 18, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Central Baptist Church Home with entombment following in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
