Joe Ann Simmons Crawford

Joe Ann Simmons Crawford, 87, of Warner Robins, GA died July 19, 2011 after an extended illness.

She was born on June 28, 1924 in Macon, Georgia, the daughter of Fred and Josie Simmons. She was married to Dr. Carl Crawford who predeceased her in 1997. Joe Ann graduated from A.L. Miller High School of Macon in 1942 and then attended the University of Georgia.

She worked for McKesson & Robbins Pharmaceuticals where she met Carl. After marrying in 1959, they headed to Augusta for Carl to attend the Medical College of GA in 1961 where their only child, Connie, was born. In 1968, the Crawfords moved to Warner Robins where Joe Ann served as the office manager for Dr. Crawford's medical practice. She often accompanied her husband on house calls and on visits to the nursing home. She is a past member of the Warner Robins Woman's Club and also a past member and president of the Peachbelt Medical Auxiliary. Before becoming ill Joe Ann was an active member of All Saint's Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry and various committees. Since being ill, she was blessed by the Homebound Ministry of Central Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Crawford Custer and her husband Scott of Kathleen, GA; grandchildren. Greg, Melanie and Kate Custer of Kathleen, GA and her sister, Mary K. Richardson of Macon.

The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Terrace of Perry for the loving care that they gave Joe Ann during her extended illness. Visitation will be on Friday, July 22nd from 6 to 8 pm at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 23rd in the McCullough Funeral Home Chapel, Warner Robins, Georgia with Dr. Owen Bozeman officiating. Burial will be at Parkway Memorial Gardens. The Family suggests that donations be made to the Next Horizon Building Fund at Central Baptist Church, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
