Joe Wall

December 24, 1929 — October 12, 2013

Mr. Joe Wall of Thomasville, Georgia, previously a long-term resident of Warner Robins died Saturday, October 12, of pneumonia at age of 83. Mr. Wall was born along with his twin brother Gene on Christmas Eve, 1929 on a farm in Jackson County, Georgia. He was the son of Albert Glenn and Ettie Whitehead Wall whose family eventually grew to ten children. He served in the Navy and Naval Reserves.

After the untimely death of his father in 1953, Mr. Wall, along with his brother Gene, took over their father's service station on First Street, across the street from Robins Air Force Base. From such humble beginnings, the Wall brothers, with help from their wives, their sisters Hilda Wall Mitchell and Ann Wall Stone (and her husband Buddy Stone), and brothers Doug and James Wall, built Wall Tire Service Inc. and Wall Tire Distributors Inc., a chain of tire stores headquartered in Warner Robins that eventually operated 28 retail stores and 7 wholesale tire warehouses in Georgia and Alabama. The Wall brothers sold their business in 1987, whereupon Mr. Wall enjoyed his retirement golfing and traveling with his wife Helen with homes in Florida and North Carolina.
Mr. Wall was a member of the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Rotary Club and a Mason. He also served on the Boy Scouts of America Regional Council and was a board member of the Georgia Tire Dealers Association, among numerous other organizations he served during his long career. Mr. Wall was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason (Valley of Macon), Al Sihah Shriner (A.A.O.N.M.S of Macon), and a faithful life-long member of the United Methodist Church, most recently an associate member at Thomasville First UMC and Trinity UMC in Warner Robins. He was a business and civic leader whose efforts did so much to make Warner Robins the thriving city it is today.

Mr. Wall was married to Sarah Helen Jones Wall, who died on April 17, 2010. He is survived by their sons, Greg Wall (Ann) of McDonough, Steve Wall (Jeanette) of Oviedo, FL, and Gary Wall (Elizabeth) of Thomasville; eight grandchildren, Tara Funderburk of Athens, Candace "Nikki" Claud of Casselberry, FL, Lauren Price of Suwanee, Christopher Wall of Valdosta, Kimberly DeHaven of Thomasville, Brad Wall of Decatur, Alicia Mazariego of Longwood, FL, and Kaitlyn Wall of McDonough; and five great grandchildren, Braylon and Hensley Wall of Valdosta, Maya Funderburk of Athens, Payton Claud of Casselberry, FL and James Price of Suwannee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Glenn and Ettie Whitehead Wall; his wife Sarah Helen Jones Wall and siblings, Doris Wall Lay, John G. Wall, Douglas C. Wall, Hilda Wall Mitchell, Gene Wall, Ann Wall Stone, Jane Wall Stuart and James H. "Jim" Wall.

His memory will forever be treasured by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister, Susan Wall Lester of Sachse, Texas; and many, many loving nieces and nephews.
