John Denson Russell

On the evening of Thursday, January 7, 2016, John Russell went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was 73.

John Denson was born in Macon, Georgia on January 3, 1943 to the late Raymond R. Russell, Sr. and Susan D. Russell. A proud four year veteran of the United States Air Force, he earned his Master's Degree in Technology from Georgia Southern University and retired from Robins Air Force Base.

On August 14, 1966, John married the beautiful Kinnie Holliday. Together, they raised two wonderful children and went on to become doting grandparents to their lovely grandchildren who affectionately called him Ka. John loved watching and going to his grandchildren's activities, functions, and sports. He loved the beach as well, and enjoyed traveling back and forth between his home in Bonaire and his home on St. Simons Island. John loved talking to everyone about Jesus and loved leading people to the Lord.

John had many interests and talents including fishing, hunting, woodworking, and puzzles. He was also a Master Craftsman in graphics and could fix anything. Freedom Baptist Church was his church home. He leaves behind his legacy with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

His memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife of 49 years, Kinnie Holliday Russell of Bonaire; children, Heather Whitaker (Neil) of Perry and Heath Russell (Stacey) of Lexington Park, Maryland; grandchildren, Annabelle, Megan and Aubrey Whitaker, Zackary, Briar and Parker Russell, and Dylan Davis-Trail, and grandson, John Denson Russell on the way; brother, Ray Russell (Janice) of Nahunta, Georgia; and several adoring nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2016 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Mr. Russell will be laid to rest in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
