John S. "Jacob" Selph

John S. “Jacob” Selph, who just celebrated his 95th birthday in December, passed away in Perry in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 27, 2022.

Born in Wheeler County, Georgia, Jacob was the son of the late Samuel C. and Eula Mae Cooper Selph. He joined the United States Army and proudly served in World War II. After his time in the military, John worked in civil service at Robins Air Force Base, most recently as a Production Controller as well as the Air Force Reserves. In his free time, Jacob loved to fish and play pool. He was an active member of the Masons and the American Legion for many years. He was also a member of the Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Helena.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Belinda Mize of Warner Robins and Joseph S. Selph (Deirdra) of Byron; grandchildren, Erik Mize, Jacob Selph and Tara Lahay; and great-grandchildren, Trevor Mains, Killian Selph, Samantha Selph, Brooke Lahay and Bailey Lahay.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022, at McCullough Funeral Home. His service will immediately follow visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery.
