John Sharp Kennoy, Jr.

June 15, 1935 — March 11, 2013

John Sharp Kennoy, Jr., 77, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 11, 2013.

John was born on June 15, 1935 in Florence, Alabama to the late John Sharp Kennoy, Sr. and Anna Ruth Prater Kennoy. John grew up in Lexington, Kentucky where he graduated as Valedictorian from Nicholasville High School. He received an Undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and furthered his distinguished education receiving his Master's degree from the University of Florida. With pride and honor, John served his country in the United States Marine Corps and continued service with the United States Marine Corps Reserves. John retired from TRW where he dedicated over thirty years of employment as a Civil and Aeronautical Engineer, working on the space program in Huntsville, Alabama and Houston, Texas. Subsequent to his retirement, John worked at Robins Air Force Base, employed by Advent and then Spectrum Contractors where he worked closely with the U2 Spy Plane operations. He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church, serving as the Singles Sunday School Teacher for many years and also served as Class Director of Open Arms Sunday School Class. He will be remembered as a faithful servant of the Lord and a dedicated family man. His hobbies include model airplanes, playing the harmonica, and traveling. His parents, two children, Bret Lane Kennoy and Greg Kennoy; and brother, William Kennoy, all preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of twenty years, Betty J. Kennoy, Perry; daughter, Jill B. Ussery (David), Milledgeville; sons, Kevin Kennoy (Kelley), Huntsville, Alabama; son, Daniel Kennoy, Covington, Georgia; step daughters, Melody Spalinger (Dave), Bakersfield, California; Sabrina Butler (Sam), Poway, California; step sons, Bruce Mayhew (Julie), Orlando, Florida; Richard Mayhew (Jamie), Bonaire, Georgia; sister and brother in law, Nancy and Jack Morris; brother, Bobby Kennoy, all of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Faith and Seth Ussery, and Noah Kennoy; step grandchildren, J. P. and Katie Swartz, Steven McDuffie, Taylor Mayhew, Chad, Paige, and Tyler Spalinger, Bethany, Olivia and Abbie Mayhew, Jake and Eli Butler; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, March 14 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Owen Bozeman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road Ste. 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
