John Wesley Knowles, Sr.

In the early evening hours of Sunday, December 11, 2016 John Knowles, 78, passed away peacefully at his home.

John was born on April 20, 1938 to the late Paul and Josephine Knowles in Macon, Georgia. He was a graduate of Lanier High School. John proudly served and retired from the United States Air Force Reserve. He was co-owner of B & J Body Shop and a partner at Load Star Trailer. He later retired from Robins Air Force Base as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic and began working at Specialist Power Windows and Precision Collision. John was a competitor on the National Guard Pistol Team. He had a love for classic cars; especially hot rods and race cars. John was a member of the National Vintage Racing Association and the Middle Georgia Cruisers. He was also founding member of the "Heart of Georgia Charity Run" which raised money for many organizations including the Masonic Home. John was a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge in Warner Robins. His giving heart was shown through the time he volunteered for several charities that supported children.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 55 years, Jo Knowles of Byron; sons, John W. Knowles, Jr. of Byron; Kenneth E. Knowles of Byron; siblings, Sarah Stokes of Lizella; Paula Gwathney (Walter) of Centerville; James J. Knowles of Macon; William Knowles (Nell) of Gray; Mary Jo Dodson (Harold) of Blythwood, South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of John Wesley Knowles to the ALS Association of Georgia, 5881 Glenridge Drive Suite 200, Atlanta, Georgia 30328.
