John William Pickett, Sr.

June 1, 1937 — July 30, 2018

John William Pickett, Sr., 81, entered into rest on Monday, July 30, 2018.

John was born on June 1, 1937 in Louisville, Mississippi to the late William Eldridge and Grace McKinley Pickett. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired from Robins Air Force Base with 32 years of civil service where he worked with F-15’s. Following his civil service retirement, John served as a bailiff for Judge Ed Lukemire at Houston County Superior Court for 17 years. He was a longtime faithful member of Central Baptist Church, loved fishing and automobiles. John will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother who deeply loved his family, his church, and his friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Pickett.

His memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife of 60 years, LaWanda Pickett of Byron; son, Johnny Pickett (Teresa) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Jed Pickett (Whitney) of Rome, Georgia, Joshua and Jordan Pickett, both of Warner Robins; son-in-love, Rob Beitler (Shirley) and their children, Kayla and Ryan, all of Kathleen; brother, Ronnie Pickett of Milledgeville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Friday, August 3, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Dilks and Rev. Randy Toms officiating. At the family’s request, his burial will be private.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of John to Children’s Miracle Network, 858 High Street, Macon, GA 31201.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Pickett’s arrangements.
