Johnny William Barrett, Sr.

October 22, 1925 — December 16, 2015

Johnny Barrett, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. He was born in Berrytown, Georgia to the late W.C. and Clevey Warren Barrett. It was with great honor and pride that Johnny enlisted in the United States Army from 1941-1945. A veteran of the D-Day invasion he proudly fought for his country at the Beach of Normandy, where he served in the 101st Airborne 62 Division. In recognition of his incredible valor, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantry Metal. After the war, Johnny continued his career at Robins Air Force Base; he retired as Chief after 25 plus years of service. He was also former owner of Barrett Body Shop in Warner Robins and a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Along with his parents and his first wife, Sue Barrett, sons, Johnny William Barrett, Jr and Steven Vincent "Steve" Barrett, and two sisters, preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 20 years, Rebecca Thomas Barrett of Kathleen; children, Candis Spears (Dee) of Trion, Victoria Newman of Savanah, and Christopher Mitchell of Warner Robins; daughter-in-law, Sara Barrett of Bonaire; grandchildren, Nicholas R. Johnson (Darlene), Johnny Barrett III (Shawna), Brad Spears (Tammy), Casey Spears, Debbie Mims; great grandchildren, Johnny William Barrett IV, Devin S. McDonald, Caden Daniel, Emma Daniel, Chelsea Johnson, Kyle Johnson; one sister, Annett Wallace of Summerville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Magnolia Park Cemetery with full military honors.
