Joseph Dewey Barnett

Joseph D. Barnett, 73, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 27, 2020.

Joseph was born on March 26, 1946 in Sylacauga, Alabama, to the late Dewey and Marie Honeycutt Barnett. At age 18, he joined the United States Air Force where he served for over 10 years; he bravely served in Vietnam during that time. Joseph went on to retire from Robins Air Force Base with 30 years as a federal firefighter, inspector, and fire safety educator. He also retired from Houston Hardware in Bonaire after 20 dedicated years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Kenneth; and parents-in-law, Dovie and Jimmy Griffin.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Bonnie Barnett of Kathleen; daughters, Dawn Barnett Miller of Pueblo, Colorado, Dana Cook-Padgett (Mark) of Perry, and Jolean Barnett Caracillo (Troy) of Fort Valley; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 30, 2020, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Military Honors in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Sidney McLeod will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
