July 16, 1921 — September 12, 2012

Joseph Frank Hofsash became one of God's angels on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 after enjoying ninety-one years of life.

Mr. Hofsash was born to the late Louis and Mary Owcarz on July 16, 1921 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He was in the United States Army during World War II and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving as an aircraft technician in North Africa and Europe. Joe resumed his service to our armed forces at Olmstead Air Force Base (Middletown, Pennsylvania), and eventually retired at Robins Air Force Base after thirty-seven years as an Air Force civilian. He was Trinity United Methodist Church's athletic director for many years organizing and participating in basketball, bowling, and his special love, baseball. Joe started his baseball career as a child, continued through his service years, and on into adulthood. At age sixty-five, Joe received a plaque from the City of Warner Robins honoring him as the city's oldest active softball player. He hung up his bat well into his 80's after serving as Trinity's softball coach.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-three years, Irene Ann Hofsash, Warner Robins; his two daughters, Donna Lee Scott (Harold), Warner Robins and Bonnie Lee Cagle, Greenville, South Carolina; two granddaughters, Melissa Graham (Will), Newnan and Noella Scott, Brooklyn, New York; two grandsons, Joseph Cagle (Andrea) and Matthew Cagle, both of Greenville, South Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Meghan, Rosemary, Conner, Jordan, and Ava Graham, all of Newnan, and Katelyn and Emily Cagle, both of Greenville; two sisters, Jeanne Gontarski and Anna Kazmierczak of Scranton, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.
