Kathleen Ann Daigle

July 9, 1948 — May 19, 2019

Kathleen Daigle, devoted wife, dedicated mother, and doting grandmother, passed away at home on the morning of Sunday, May 19, 2019. She was 70 years old.

Kathleen was born in Mobile, Alabama on July 9, 1948 to the late James Willard and Mary Ann Rauch Black. In 1973, she started dating her future husband, James, while watching the Kentucky Derby the day Secretariat won. Kathleen and James used the yearly event to remind them of their dating anniversary and made sure to watch it together every year. They married in 1979 and lived happily together until her last day.

One of Kathleen’s greatest joys in life was being a loving mother to her two daughters, Mary and Anne. Kathleen was proud of all of their accomplishments, including giving her grandchildren for whom she filled the role of ‘grandmother.’ Being James’s wife was also something she adored. Kathleen enjoyed being involved with James in the Knights of Columbus and was a much-loved member of the Lady Auxiliary where she attended the monthly luncheon.

She was a devout parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as well. When she was healthy, Kathleen loved singing with James in the church choir, praying the Rosary each day, and was dedicated to daily Mass. She was a true woman of faith and the heart of the Daigle family as she shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example.

Kathleen’s greatest hobby was simply being a “people person.” She will be remembered for the way she kept her family connected. She was great about reaching out to her family members to stay in touch and felt it was her duty as the oldest in the family to keep everyone together. Her friends and family will miss her frequent calls. Kathleen’s optimistic personality and “glass half full” way of life made her friends wherever she went. She had an uncanny ability for making everyone comfortable when they were with her. Kathleen was charismatic and loved to laugh and tell jokes, even though she was not the best at telling them! She was even funny when she did not mean to be. Her husband found it humorous that she thought she was “old” when she found her first gray hair, even though she did not get one until she was 50! We all have happy memories of Kathleen and these we must hold dear in our hearts and cherish them, as she cherished us.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Jimmy Black, MaryAnn Ghearthart, and Elizabeth Cahoon.

Kathleen’s memory will forever be treasured by her husband, lover, and friend of 39 years, James Michael Daigle; daughters, Mary T.D. Walcott (Tye) and Anne M. Daigle; granddaughter, Lavender Aleida Walcott; siblings, Martha Bouler, Therese Pollman, Clara Carley, William and Tommy Black; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
