Kathleen Dubiel

May 27, 1944 — January 8, 2016

Kathleen Dubiel, 71, was called home to her Lord on Friday, January 8, 2016 due to a long brave journey with liver cancer.

Kathie was born to the late Juanita and Michael McNulty in Saint Paul, Minnesota on May 27, 1944. She received a degree in Home Economics from Texas Christian University in 1966. She married Robert Dubiel on June 10, 1967 in Ft. Worth, Texas, then a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

Kathie and Bob lived a wonderful life together, over forty-eight years as man and wife. Kathie was the love of Bob's life – a beautiful, strong woman who loved her family, the pleasures and treasures of the world, and God. Kathie and Bob met in 1965 at Bob's first assignment, Walker Air Force Base, New Mexico. Kathie's father was an Air Force Lt. Colonel and got his next assignment to Carswell Air Force Base, Texas. Bob drove several four hundred sixty-four mile trips from New Mexico to Texas to court his future wife. After their wedding vows in Fort Worth, they drove off to their exciting new life in the Air Force. They headed for Warren Michigan, Bob's boyhood home, and enjoyed a second wedding reception with Bob's family. After a short honeymoon in Niagara Falls, they reported to Pease Air Force Base New Hampshire, home of the 509th B-52 Bomb Wing. Nine months later Bob was tapped to go "TDY" to Guam with the Wing. Kathie went home to Fort Worth and five months later Bob joyfully returned home from Guam.

The Dubiels then spent two years at Goose Bay Air Base in Canada where they enjoyed lots of snow, and plugging their 1962 VW into electric "hitching posts" so it wouldn't freeze.

At their next base, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, they were blessed with the birth of their beloved daughter, Kristy. Their next assignments took them to Arkansas, Illinois, Marietta, Georgia and finally to Warner Robins in 1986 where Bob was assigned to Air Force Reserve Headquarters at Robins Air Force Base. After three years at Robins, Bob was called to an assignment at the Pentagon until his retirement from active duty in 1994. Kathie and their only daughter Kristy, then a senior at Warner Robins High School, stayed in Warner Robins, showing Kathie's amazing strength in keeping the home fires burning. Kristy then went on to become a successful University of Georgia "Bulldog" in Athens, Georgia.

Kristy married Steve Sylvester of Warner Robins and they gave the Dubiels two beautiful grandsons, Joseph and Adam, now a senior and junior at Warner Robins High School. Kathie was their day care mom for five years, a joyous opportunity to watch the boys grow up. For the last seventeen years, Kathie and Bob have loved seeing them develop their amazing academic, music and athletic skills.

Kathie loved gardening and cooking, using the herbs she grew to make delicious meals for her family and church. Bob said many times, "marry a home economics major". Kathie also shared her skills with children for a time at Young Chef's Academy in Warner Robins and as a substitute teacher and caterer.

Kathie and Bob were long-time members of Corvettes Ltd. of Central Georgia car club and loved their top-down rides in four different corvette convertibles over the years.

Kathie and Bob were charter members of Christ the Redeemer Anglian Church in Fort Valley. Both were deeply involved with the development and growth of the church; Bob as Capital campaign kick-off chairman, newsletter editor and choir member and Kathie helped to prepare the fellowship celebrations after Sunday services and organizing and conducting successful fund raising efforts and events. Kathie loved each and every member of the special congregation at Christ the Redeemer. Watching the new church building go up was one of the greatest thrills of her life.

She is survived by her close sister, Patricia and husband, Steve MacSwain, and their son, Lance of Fort Worth, Texas.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at McCullough Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Afterwards, Kathie will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Mausoleum in Warner Robins.

Kathie's last days were made special by the outstanding services of Heart of Georgia Hospice and the loving comfort of her family and her many friends. A special thanks to Father Matthew Harlow, Rector at Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church for this blessings and final communion at home.

Memorials may be given in memory of Kathie Dubiel to Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, 2815 Highway 41 North, Fort Valley, Georgia 31030.
