Kenneth Allen Daniel

June 25, 1931 — August 23, 2021

Kenneth Daniel was a scholar, family man, and hoarder of pretty much everything: nuts, bolts, rubber bands, jars, thumb drives, extension cords, binders full of news clippings, but especially books. His personal library filled first a garage, then a small barn. He read voraciously, even more so through the magic of audiobooks after a stroke left him legally blind in 2018.

Born to Marion and Minnie Bell Daniel in 1931, Ken grew up in the Texas oil fields, joined the army, served in two wars, and saw the world. He married local beauty Inge Richter while stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1960. Ken loved family and devoted his later years to connecting even his most distant relations in space and time through emails and genealogical research.

After receiving a Purple Heart, Ken left the military and worked with the post office until his retirement in 1986, when he and Inge fulfilled their dream of moving to the beachside city of Pensacola for their golden years. There, Ken filled his yard with cacti and bamboo and told endless stories of his friends and family again and again, often to the same listener. He loved life, and loved people the way the rest of us love dogs and cats.

Ken passed away at Summerhill Nursing Home on the evening of August 23, 2021. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peggy Gunn, he is survived by his wife, Ingeburg Richter Daniel; sister, Ann McDonald; son, Terry Don Neal (Janet); daughter, Pam Schodt (Joe); daughter, Debbie Greene (Jim); son, Scott Daniel (Jenna); grandsons, Jeff and Brent Neal; Ken, Nathan, and Riley Greene; Jason and Tyler Schodt; and Micah Daniel; and granddaughter, Emma Daniel.
