Kenneth Jay Bertram

August 14, 1952 — June 26, 2020

On Friday, June 26, 2020, Kenny Bertram, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away at age 67.

Born in Muncie, Indiana on August 14, 1952, Kenny was one of three sons to Barbara Bertram and the late George Bertram. He grew up in an Air Force family and traveled all over the United States. From a young age, Kenny strived to be great at whatever he set his mind to. He carried a deep appreciation for the outdoors, sports, and motorcycles. His hard work and dedication in the Boy Scouts led him to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, just like his father had. Kenny received an ROTC scholarship to Ohio State University. After college, Kenny moved from Ohio to Warner Robins to be closer to family, and in the mid 1970s, he joined his parents at the family business, AAA Pool Supply. His brothers later joined and together they grew the business. Kenny retired in 2014; he wholeheartedly loved his work and was a hard worker from day one.

In 1979, Kenny met Susy, and later married her in 1986. They shared 40 years together and raised two sons, Zach and Nick. He was a caring and selfless father who was always involved in his sons’ lives. Kenny was proud that both sons followed his footsteps in becoming the third generation of Eagle Scouts, which allowed bonding time that led to years of camping and hiking together. His early love for riding motorcycles grew into a love for jet-skis, both of which led to many adventures he shared with his friends and family. Retirement gave him more opportunities to spend time with his family, to be outdoors, go camping, and enjoy time on the water. Seeing his sons get married and have their own children were some of his proudest and most fulfilling moments.

Along with family, friendship was something that was tremendously important to Kenny. Even though he moved away from Ohio 50 years ago and they were states apart, he kept the same close-knit group of friends. His family describes him as a “true fighter” having battled heart disease for the past 20 years, defying the odds and miraculously surviving multiple surgeries. A humble man, he persevered through these challenges without complaint. He will be remembered for his unwavering strength and true love for his family.

Those left to cherish Kenny’s memory are his loving wife of 34 years, Susy Bertram; sons, Zach Bertram (Emily) and Nick Bertram (Kayla); granddaughters, Adaline and Raegan Bertram; mother, Barbara Bertram; and brothers, Steve Bertram (Barbara) and Chuck Bertram (Judy).

An outdoor memorial service celebrating Kenny’s life will be held at Sojourn Church (2238 US Hwy 41 Perry, GA 31069) on Friday, July 3rd. Visitation will occur at 9 am in the fellowship hall, followed by the memorial service at 10 am.
