Larry Jackson Porter

Larry Porter, 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

Larry was born on July 6, 1941 in Macon, Georgia to the late Andrew and Claire Riley Porter. He grew up in Macon where he graduated from Lanier High School in 1959. Larry continued his education at Middle Georgia College in Cochran where he earned his Associates Degree. With great pride and honor, he served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Crisis on board the U.S. Diamond Head. Following his military service Larry worked for the Chalk Mines in the Laboratory before beginning his career at Allstate where he was an insurance agent for 31 years. He was a longtime member of Unity Baptist Church where he volunteered as a coach for Upward sports. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, eating, watching westerns, and especially watching the University of Georgia Bulldogs Football. However, his greatest joy came from time spent with his beloved family.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Porter Floyd.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 18 years, Patricia D. Porter of Bonaire; son, Tarry Tyson; daughter, Lisa Tyson Speir (Rick); grandchildren, Samuel, Micah, and Timothy Speir, all of Warner Robins; sister, Joan Nelms (Leonard) of Marietta, as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 in the Chapel of McCullough. Following the service, Larry will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with military honors.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Larry Porter to Unity Baptist Church, 479 GA 96, Bonaire, GA 31005.
