Lee Roy Claxton, 89, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

Lee Roy was born on February 7, 1924 in Gumlog, Georgia to the late Charlie Thomas Jefferson Claxton and Mary Belle Davis Claxton. He grew up in Wrightsville, Georgia and moved to Athens, Georgia where he met his first wife while attending the University of Georgia. After marrying, they lived in Athens for several years before moving to Griffin. After forty years of marriage, his first wife passed away in 1985. In 1986, he married Natalie Norris Claxton and lived the remainder of his life in Warner Robins, Georgia. He loved life and lived it to the fullest including traveling, dancing, Georgia Bulldog games and flying. Natalie preceded him in death in December 2012.

Lee Roy proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He went on to graduate from the University Of Georgia School Of Pharmacy owning Claxton's Pharmacy of Griffin and co-owner of Claxton Hill and Claxton Graves Pharmacies in Macon. A devoted Christian, he was very active at his church at the First Baptist Church of Griffin having served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and at First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins. Lee Roy was active in many civic organizations including the Chamber of Commerce of Griffin where he was a past president and was named Man of the Year in Griffin and Pharmacist of the Year for the state of Georgia. He also served as past president of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association and served on the State Board of Health under Carl Sanders, Jimmy Carter, and Lester Maddox. Lee Roy was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and was very passionate about the Museum of Aviation.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving children, Em Claxton Barton (Joe), Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina and Kip Claxton (Gayle), Griffin, Georgia; stepchildren, Brent Norris and Donna Norris, both of Warner Robins; and Bonnie Torras (Brian), Mableton, Georgia; grandchildren, Brian Claxton, Scott Barton (Gena), Geoff Barton (MinDee), and Austin and Katie Torras; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Cameron, Rylee Belle, Gracie and Khloee Barton.

The family acknowledges with love and appreciation his caregivers, Cherri Middlebrooks, Kicea Bentley, Kathy King, Ieshia Johnson, and Tammy Harrell.

Visitation will be Friday, March 29, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Reverend Burton Dixon and Dr. Jimmy Asbell will officiate. The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to Museum of Aviation Foundation, P.O. Box 2469, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
