Leroy Adams

August 30, 1936 — March 12, 2018

On the morning of Monday, March 12, 2018 Leroy Adams, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior.

Leroy was born on August 30, 1936 in Brownsville, Tennessee to the late Gene James, Sr. and Georgia Anna Bonds Adams. He worked for Charter Steele as a steel worker and a forklift driver. Since a young age, Leroy was an honorable man of his word that always took care of his family. As a young man, he loved music; especially the “down home” blues, because of this passion he worked as a “DJ’ and spun records. Leroy was a loveable person to be around; in his free time, he enjoyed fishing and would take anyone who would join him. He enjoyed taking his son, Xavier to baseball games, and fishing. An exceptional cook, you could always find him working on the BBQ, his ribs and turkey and dressing were a family favorite.

In 1953, Leroy moved from Tennessee to Chicago, Illinois. Later in 2005, under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Michael Eaddy, he rededicated his life to Christ as a faithful member of The People’s Church of the Harvest Church of God in Christ in Chicago. Leroy relocated to Warner Robins, Georgia, in June of 2016 where he joined Harvest Church and enjoyed the Program Ministry Group on Thursday mornings faithfully until his illness prevented his attendance. Leroy’s faith and family were always his highest priority. His family has an abundance of memories they will always cherish including his love for westerns and tickling his grandchildren’s feet.

His sister, Laura Adams Newbern, preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 49 years, Marjorie Adams; children, Leroy Adams, Jr., Maria J. Head, Aaron Head, Cortez Scott, Xavier Adams; grandchildren, Karone, Keyona, Keisha, Aaron Jr., Ladora, Cindy, Tina; a host of great-grandchildren; siblings, James Adams, Jr., Al V. Adams, Betty Adams, Katherine Adams; several cousins, nieces, nephews; special cousin, Robert Lee Owens; mother-in-law, Pearlie Mae Robinson; and sisters and brother-in-laws.

A memorial service to celebrate Leroy’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in the H2 Building at Harvest Church. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jim Cowart.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Leroy Adams to Encompass Home Health and Hospice, 5233 Riverside Drive, Suite C, Macon, GA 31210.
