Lester Carl Mccraw

April 3, 1942 — January 26, 2021

A man with a golden heart, Lester Carl McCraw - also lovingly referred to as “Mr. Mac” and “Grandaddy” - passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Coliseum Northside Hospital in Macon, Georgia. He was 78 years old. Born in Laurel, Mississippi, on April 3, 1942, Mr. Mac was the son of the late Hubert and Juanee McCraw. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines Corps before working as a Production Manager at Shell Oil Company.
In 1997, Mr. Mac married the love of his life, Pam, in a small but perfect ceremony with Pam’s daughters, then just 11 and 12 years old, by her side. From that day forward, Mr. Mac became dad to Kelsey and Kimberly, and their little family would go on to make more special memories than anyone could count. His love and devotion to his family was evident in all that he did both big and small.

Mr. Mac and Pam made a great team. He called her his angel and he happily displayed his love for her for all to see. He could be seen proudly carrying her overly heavy purse through the mall and driving his car onto the sidewalk in front of a store so she would not have to step in puddles or walk far in the rain. He refused to take his wedding ring off, even in the case of a MRI, much to the disapproval of hospital staff. When they tackled a family project that required a lot of hard labor, they decided to make the most of it by wearing sweatshirts that read “McCraw Brothers” on the front. They enjoyed singing and dancing to the “oldies” together around the house just for fun. Mr. Mac was blessed with a beautiful voice. He would sing many songs, but the one Pam enjoyed the most was his rendition of “Waltz Across Texas”.
Mr. Mac was always ready to have fun. He loved to laugh, especially at his own jokes. As anyone who knew him will remember, he could really crack himself up. His favorite happy time was the Christmas season. He was passionate about spreading Christmas cheer, so much so that every year his house was compared to the Griswold’s from the movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

Mr. Mac was crazy about his grandchildren, even with his bad knees he would still give them “horsey rides” and let them climb all over him. Most of all, his grandchildren will remember Granddaddy for his big hugs. In fact, Mr. Mac’s last adventure was going to see Christmas lights with his family and grandchildren.

He also enjoyed watching and discussing politics, playing golf, going fishing, playing billiards - he was exceedingly good at it - and wearing funny t-shirts. He was an honest man with strong values and faith like a child with no doubts. He will truly be missed by the many that were blessed enough to know, love, and be loved by him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mac was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Esa Davis and Iva Wynn; and brother, Richard McCraw.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 23 years, Pamela Williams McCraw; daughters, Kimberly Blair (Daniel) and Kelsey Thomas (John); grandchildren, Hazel Amelia, James Edward, William Zachary, Rhett Emerson, Lydia Rose; and brother, Buddy McCraw.
