Lt Col Thomas "Skip" L. Ray, Jr. US Army (Ret), 75, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, November 17, 2011.

Skip was born on September 22, 1936 in Shelbyville, Tennessee to the late Thomas L. Ray and Ruth Brooks Ray. He graduated from Tennessee Technological University in 1958 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served his country for over twenty years. Among his many assignments were two combat tours in Vietnam.

Skip retired from the Army in 1979 and moved to "Poverty Point" at Lake Harding in Alabama where he lived with his beloved dogs; Duke, Gabe, and Buddy. He was an avid fisherman and served in executive positions with the Georgia Bass Federation for many years.

Survivors include, Patrick R. And Judith G. Ray of Centerville, Georgia; Patrick R. Ray, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; Megan E. Ray of Bocas, Panama; Michael B. and Carolyn Ray of Shelbyville, Tennessee; Tammery Ray of Nashville, Tennessee; and Michael B. Ray, Jr. of Shelbyville, Tennessee.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006 or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
