Early on the morning of Tuesday, May 29, 2018, Lula Mae McElhenney, 93, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. McElhenney was born on May 4, 1925 in Ellaville, Georgia to the late William and Emma Eubanks Cochran. She worked in civil service at Robins Air Force base for over 20 years before retiring. Mrs. McElhenney was a devoted member of Oakland Baptist Church where she served as the Church Correspondence Coordinator and was a member of the Singles and Singles Again Sunday School Class. She was affectionately known among the community as “the Cake Lady” for her delicious cakes and cookies she made and shared.

Her loving husband, W.B. McElhenney, Jr., her brothers, I.W., Woody, and Grady Cochran, and sisters, Gracie Barrow and Lucile Hobbs, preceded her in death.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughter, Linda Carole Portwood (Glenn) of Centerville; son, Lynn McElhenney (Marsha) of Lizella; grandchildren, Pamela Tetterton (Larry) of Bethlehem, Greg Portwood of Centerville; April Lasseter (Jeremy) of Kathleen, and great-grandchildren, Payton Tetterton, Austin and Cameron Lasseter, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Following the service at 2:30 p.m., Mrs. McElhenney will be laid to rest in Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Butler.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Lula Mae McElhenney to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 537, Warner Robins, GA 31099.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mrs. McElhenney’s arrangements.
