Msgt. Curley Parker, Usaf (Ret.)

January 2, 1936 — April 3, 2019

Curley Parker, age 83, passed away peacefully at Heart of Georgia Inpatient Hospice on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

Born on January 2, 1936 and raised on a farm in Oregon, Curley Parker was the son of the late John Frank and Audrey Naomi Parker. He was a proud United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran and retired with 23 years of honorable service to his country. In Curley’s military retirement, he was a mechanic and maintenance/upkeep worker for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. He also owned his own garage called “C & S Auto,” where he worked on all types of vehicles. He then moved to Dayton, Ohio to work for Auto Zone. In the Fall of 1999, Curley and his wife, Sandy, moved to Centerville, Georgia and there he worked for Centerville Sanitation and later as a freelance mechanic. Countless customers, especially farmers, depended on his expertise in repairing air conditioner units and other equipment.

Curley’s genuine passion for helping people resonated in everything he did. He loved to jokingly charge a quarter for his help and would gladly assist anyone in need. Curley loved to give everyone hugs, even strangers. It was not uncommon for you to hear, “Where’s my hug?” when you were around Curley. Everyone loved him, and he returned their love, especially the children in his neighborhood.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Eleanor L. Parker, Eve Mitchell, and Audrey Parker; and his granddaughter, Sara Humphry.

Curley’s memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 37 years, Sandra Lynn Parker; children, Patricia Brown (Michael), Guy H. Parker, Brad Humphry (Sue), Todd Humphry (Jan), Rob Humphry (Shanyn), and Corey Humphry (Misty); grandchildren, William Humphry (Whitney), Stuart Brown, Robert Brown, Jeffrey Humphry, Blaise Humphry, Tegan Humphry, Crystal Reid, Joe Robinson, and Megan Humphry; three great-granddaughters; brother, John D. Parker; and six nieces and nephews.

At the family’s request, all services will be private.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
