Msgt. Kennard "Ken" Apaka, Sr., Usaf (Ret.)

March 13, 1938 — May 6, 2018

On the morning of Sunday, May 6, 2018, Ken Apaka, 80, passed away at the Houston Medical Center.

Ken was born on March 13, 1938 in Honolulu, Hawaii to the late William Sr. and Emmeline Kaina Apaka. A proud Vietnam Veteran, he served over 20 years in the United States Air Force before retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Later, Ken joined the Warner Robins Police Department where he served our community as a police officer until his retirement. Following his retirement, he was very active with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit where he served as a Deputy Sheriff. Ken had a zest for life and always found pleasure in making other people laugh. He enjoyed dancing, going to the movies, was an avid fan of the Warner Robins High School Demons; however, his greatest joy came from time spent fellowshipping with his family and friends. Ken was a fantastic grill master and loved “cranking up the grill” and cooking for his family and friends. He was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Warner Robins Civitan Club, the Hospital Auxillary, and a founding member and Patriarch of the GAWaiian O’hana. Ken was a Master Mason of Tyrian Lodge 111, also a Scottish Rite Mason, member of the Al Sihah Shrine and the Houston County Shrine Club.

His siblings, Beverly Apaka Thompson and Emmalani Cook, preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Glenda Stone Apaka of Warner Robins; children, Jackie Apaka Cole (David) of Perry, Kennard “Kenny” Apaka (Robin) of Leesburg; grandchildren, Joshua Cole (Sarah) , Jessica Cole Merrell (Mathew), Brittany Carroll (David), Kelsey Hammock, Adam Miller, Kennard K. “Trey” Apaka III (Cally); great grandchildren, Karsyn Estes, Cohen Blankenship, Aleia Apaka, Judah Hammock, Charlotte Cole, and siblings, Gilmer Apaka and William Apaka Jr. (Tsu).

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 Christ United Methodist Church. Following the service, Ken will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with full military and masonic honors. Ken’s family requests friends wear casual or Hawaiian Attire to the service.
