Mae Sorrow Channell

May 12, 1924 — April 14, 2016

Mae Ruth Sorrow Channell of Kathleen, Georgia, formerly of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away peacefully April 14, 2016 at the age of 91. Her extraordinary life was one family and friends alike emulated, for she demonstrated Christian character in everything she did. From listening with great interest to guiding with a twinkle in her eye, she served as the example needed by all. There was always a place at her table for family and friends and always a place in her heart to help others. Mae was truly an earnest, sincere, and optimistic person who always met people with a warm smile and personality. Her family is grateful and blessed to have loved and been loved in return by such a wonderful human being.

Born in Oconee County, Georgia, Mae S. Channell later grew up in Greene County, Georgia. She worked in Union Point, Georgia until she married Clarence N. Channell, Sr. in January, 1944. In 1951, Mae and Clarence moved to Warner Robins where she, along with her husband and sons, became members of the First United Methodist Church, following baptism by the Reverend Carlton Carruth in 1957. Mae was a talented home manager, devoted wife, and caring mother. As an avid fan and thirty year supporter of her three sons during their athletic youth and throughout their collegiate years and later family lives, Mae delighted in the performance and acclaim of her sons. From Mae's babysitting four grandchildren to her cuddling seven great-grandchildren, the sweetness and twinkle in her eye continued to make all feel very loved.

Mae S. Channell is survived by her beloved husband, Clarence N. Channell, Sr., her son, Clarence N. Channell, Jr. (Jane) of Warner Robins; her son, L. Mike Channell (Dawn) of Knoxville, Tennessee and her son, R. Dale Channell (Shannon) of Kathleen. Grandchildren include: Wes Channell (Andrea) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Clay Channell (Audrey) of Birmingham, Alabama, Ramey Channell of Kathleen and Hannah C. Wells (Matt) of Bonaire. Great-grandchildren include: Caden and Dylan Channell of Knoxville, Tennessee, Cameron, Luke, Noah, and Joseph Channell of Birmingham, Alabama, and Nolan Wells of Bonaire.

Additional surviving family members include her sister, Hildred Rogers of Warner Robins, her brother, Bob Sorrow (Joyce) of Crawford County, Georgia, her brother, Rupert Sorrow (Irene) of Temple, Texas, her brother, Edward Sorrow of Jones County, Georgia, her sister, Ada Mullis of Warner Robins, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas W. Sorrow and Leila Ramey Sorrow, her sister Rachel Sorrow Taylor, and her brother Warren Sorrow.

Mae and husband Clarence celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary on January 14, 2016. She spent her last days with family and friends and under the loving care of the professional staff at the Heart of Georgia Hospice Inpatient Care in Perry.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour preceding the services. Following the service, Mae will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
