Malon "Al" Allison Jones

January 19, 1942 — June 12, 2021

Malon “Al” Allison Jones, our loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at his home on the afternoon of Saturday, June 12, 2021. He was 79 years old.

A lifelong native of the Middle Georgia area, Al was born in Macon on January 19, 1942, the son of the late Malon Alonzo and Vanerette Watson Jones. He excelled in football at Warner Robins High School and graduated with the Class of 1960. Shortly after, he proudly joined the United States Army Reserve where he served his country for seven years.

From the time he was young, Al was extremely ambitious in all his endeavors. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia Southern University, a Master’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and a six-year Specialist degree from the University of Georgia. For years, Al was a well-respected teacher, football, and women’s basketball coach at Northside High School and at Middle Georgia College. He also held the position of Headmaster at Windsor Academy. Following his career in education and coaching, he started Kelly-Christopher and Associates in 1982, providing natural gas services to customers across the country.

Al was a natural entertainer, and his enthusiasm for life and mischievous disposition was revered by all who knew him. One of his greatest adventures was becoming a pilot and having the opportunity to fly his Cessna airplane. When Al wasn’t in the air or driving down dirt roads to explore, you could find him square dancing with the “Pairs and Squares,” or admiring antique cars and anything old and rustic. His true passion was woodworking and turning bowls, and he loved gifting bowls to his family and friends. Al also loved all children, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed holidays and special occasions, particularly when there was delicious food!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Beverly Harbuck Jones; and his son, Malon Christopher Jones.

Al is survived by his loving daughters, Kelly Suzanne Jones (Steven Wu) and Jana Jones Reese (Robert); grandchildren, Xen and Kaia Reese; sister, Zo Jones Blanchard; special friend and confidante of 9 years, Barbara Carter; and his sweet grand-dogs, Huli and Finn.

Al’s family will receive visitors at McCullough Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest with a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery, 64 Crest Hill St., Reynolds, GA 31076, on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jamie Newsome officiating.
