Marion Anna Yearty Dawson

February 15, 1935 — March 27, 2017

Marion Dawson passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, joining her Savior, Jesus Christ, many loved ones and friends. She was born to wonderful Christian parents, Lonnie A. and Pearl Yearty on a very cold morning in a sweet country home in Telfair County, Georgia on February 15, 1935. Marion lived there until she was two years old, and then moved to Florida until 1947. Later she moved to Mobile, Alabama for one year, before moving with her parents to Warner Robins on January 6, 1949. She began school at C.B. Watson Elementary and graduated from Warner Robins High School. She met Luther David Dawson, Jr., and they were married on January 19, 1953, one week before he went to Korea for 18 months. Marrying Luther was one of the most wonderful decisions she ever made.

Marion worked for Wynn's 5 & 10 on the corner of Watson and South Davis, before working for Mr. Barr at Barr Mercantile on Commercial Circle and at Kite's Drugstore on the corner of Watson and Sixth Street. All of these places are gone now. In February of 1973, she began working as secretary for Evergreen Baptist Church (now known as Evergreen Family Fellowship) and really enjoyed her work there.

Marion and Luther visited many places overseas and in the United States but always rejoiced to come back to Warner Robins. Watching Warner Robins grow was a wonderful delight to them. The tornado in April of 1953 made everyone appreciate Warner Robins so much more. Marion loved everyone especially children. She was a member of Evergreen Family Fellowship since 1957 and taught four year olds in Sunday school for twenty-five years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther on August 11, 1993; her parents, Pearl in 1976 and Lonnie in 1978; her only sister, Ellen Christine (Yearty) Bowen in March of 2013 and her husband (brother-in-law to Marion), Okey C. Bowen in January of 2013.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her son, David Dawson; daughter, Connie Dawson; grandchildren, Lindsey N. Dawson and Justin M. Dawson, all of Warner Robins; a great grandson, Dawson Drawhorn; daughter-in-law, Gina Dawson; brother-in-law, William H. Dawson and his wife, Jodie Dawson of Arkansas; many nephews and nieces; great nephews and nieces; great great nephews and nieces from both sides of the family (she loved them all as her own); and was blessed to be survived by many wonderful friends. She had a circle of friends for 31 years who traveled together and are still best friends. Marion always praised God for all her family and friends.

The family will welcome everyone for visitation on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Evergreen Family Fellowship. Following the service, Marion will be laid to rest next to her husband in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Pastor Joe Senter will officiate the service.
