Marlin Murray Smith, Jr.

January 1, 1958 — April 28, 2013

Marlin Murray Smith, Jr., 55, carried on the wings of an angel to heaven on Sunday, April 28, 2013.

Marlin, a superb angler, hunter, husband, father and son was born on January 1, 1958 in Monrovia, California. A practicing Roman Catholic he served as usher, and religious education teacher in the churches he attended over the years. He was a registered parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins, Georgia. With pride and honor, Marlin served his country for six years in the United States Army as a Surgical Technician before earning his Bachelor degree in Kinesiology at the University of Houston and Masters of Education degree at Western Governors University. During his short life, Marlin touched the lives of military youth as Director of Air Force Youth Activities and sporting programs for the Department of Defense at Yokota Air Base, Japan and Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage Alaska. He most recently worked for the Warner Robins Police Department part-time as a School Crossing Guard.

He was preceded in death by his sister; Pamela S. Jones, nephews; Larry D. Jones and David Jones, paternal grandparents; Dale Smith and Althea Mikkelson, maternal grandparents; Harold and Marie Bowman Mercer.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Melissa Smith, Robins Air Force Base Georgia, parents; Marlin Murray Smith Sr. and Delores Bowman Smith, Pottsville, Arkansas, Father-in-Law; Harry W. Herter, Bellevue, Washington, children; Thomas J. Smith (daughter-in-law, Victoria), Atsugi Naval Base, Japan; Alexander J. Smith, Bethesda, Maryland, Levi J. Smith, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, granddaughter; Sayuri K. Smith, Atsugi Naval Base, Japan, and a multitude of extended family and close friends.

A memorial service for family and friends remembering his life will be held beachside in the Florida Keys on a date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, those interested are encouraged to consider making a donation in Marlin's name to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee at http://www.stjude.org/waystohelp
