Mary Speir

Mary M. Collier Speir, 87, entered into rest on Sunday, September 13, 2009.

Mrs. Speir was born on September 20, 1921, in Griffin, Georgia. She graduated from Griffin High School as Valedictorian and was Griffin's Centennial Queen in 1940. In 1946, she assumed the role of receptionist, dispatcher and secretary of Speir Heating and Air. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church, where she was highly respected by her church and the leaders of Rehoboth Association. She served as Primary Sunday School Leader and as Younger Children's Director of Sunday School work from 1964 through 1974. She was an effective Sunday School Children's Specialist whose expertise was recognized by not only the Rehoboth Baptist Association, but by other associations as well. She was called on by state and associational leaders to lead many Children's Conferences. She devoted thirty years of service to Children's Sunday School work. After teaching, she became involved with the Pete Joyner Sunday School Class where she served as a greeter. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Herbert Speir Jr.; parents, C.A. Collier, Sr.; and Clora Spruce Collier; brothers, J.V. Collier, C.A. Collier and Harry Collier; and sisters, Elizabeth Daniel and Willie Scarborough.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her son, James R. "Rickie" (Denise) Speir, Warner Robins; daughter, Lisa S. McKean, Mobile, Alabama; grandsons, Rick (Lisa) Speir, Warner Robins, Tory (Stacy) McKean, Fairhope, Alabama, and Slade (Tiffany) Speir, Blakely, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Micah and Timothy Speir, Grayson McKean, Kayla, Kirstie, Keaton and Kendall Speir; and her constant canine companion, Annie.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 16, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Dr. Owen Bozeman and Reverend Slade Speir officiating. Entombment will follow in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Central Baptist Church-New Horizons, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins GA 31088.
