Mary Theresa Hill

Mary Theresa Hill passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York on November 26, 1917, Mary served in the Women’s Army Corps in World War II and was among the first women transferred into the Women’s Air Force when founded in 1947. She met George Ray Hill at Maxwell Army Base after the war and they were married in August of 1948, the following year she was discharged. Mary and Ray raised two daughters and traveled the world, serving and living in Montgomery, Alabama (Maxwell AFB), Paris, France (Orly AFB); Colorado Springs, Colorado (Ent AFB and Peterson Field), Mainz and Wiesbaden, Germany (Wiesbaden AFB), and Cheyenne, Wyoming (FE Warren AFB). They retired to Colorado Springs (Security), Colorado where Mary lived until 2015. In 2016, she moved to Warner Robins, Georgia.

Mary was a dedicated homemaker and stay-at-home Mom who enjoyed cooking and caring for her family. She advocated exercise and healthy eating before it became fashionable. Her positive attitude and flexibility facilitated a life of change and adventure. Mary attended Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Security, Colorado and Centerville United Methodist Church in Centerville upon her move to Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Mary and Julius Tarzanin, three brothers, John, Frank and Stephen Tarzanin, two sisters, Emma Wehland and Gertrude Gates, and George Ray Hill, her loving husband of 64 years.

Mary’s life is celebrated by her two daughters, Theresa Sandoval (Conrad T.) of Northglenn, CO, and Janice Morales-Hill (Luis) of Kathleen, GA, and sisters, Theresa Cain of Grants Pass, OR and Ruth Mitchell of Springs Hills, FL. She will also be missed by granddaughters, Karin E. Sandoval Witt (Ken) of Edwardsville, IL and Marla B. Smith (Dan) of Frederick, CO; and great-grandchildren, Bailey Mariel, Andrew Joseph, George Oliver and Sadie Joslyn Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Mary will be laid to rest in Andersonville National Cemetery on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 12:00 p.m.


Flowers are welcome, but in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Centerville United Methodist Church, 600 N. Houston Lake Rd., Centerville, GA 31028.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mrs. Hill’s arrangements.
