Mary Virginia Smith

Mary Virginia Smith, 85, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 15, 2013.

Mary was born on August 15, 1927 in Walterboro, South Carolina to the late Howard Herndon and Adell Craven Herndon. She was a member of Grace Advent Christian Church in Walterboro. Mary retired from First Federal of Pompano Beach, Florida where she worked for many years as a switchboard operator. She was a woman of faith, a wonderful, wife, mother, and grandmother. Mary was a member of the Eastern Star and Women's Missionary Union. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. For many years, she and her sister in law, Pat Smith, owned and operated their own florist. Her parents and her beloved husband of fifty nine years, William Edward Smith, Jr., all preceded her in death.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving and devoted children and their spouses, Jack Edward Smith (Carla), Byron, Georgia; and Frieda Hiers (Harry), Walterboro, South Carolina; grandchildren, Scott Smith, Hendersonville, Tennessee; Stacy Phillips, Warner Robins; Donna Robinson, Walterboro, South Carolina; Lee Stringfield, Morristown, Tennessee; and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 29 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Brice W. Herndon & Sons Funeral Home. Services will he held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Brice W. Herndon & Sons Funeral Home located at 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488. Interment will follow in Grace Advent Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
